So last year I was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic with hypoglycemia. Basically, when I eat, my glucose will drop down into the 50-70 range aka the dizzy and pass out range. They put me on monjaro when I was diagnosed. I weighed about 190#. The thought behind the medication was to stabilize my glucose. My fasting glucose is 120. Then I will eat, it drops drastically then shots up to 160 after about 30 minutes. The monjaro is helping a little. The issue is, I have zero appetite. I have always been an eat what my brain says I need to eat. I suck at eating enough during day before monjaro. So I’m basically anorexic st this point. I live on kind bars and Greek yogurt. My body prefers to drop insulin as soon as I eat. I’m still in the “ honeymoon phase I do not go higher than 180. I now weigh 150#. That is forty pounds down. But, I need to share this journey as it has not been easy.
I have become heat intolerant. I also had an iron deficiency last blood work. Ugh. I hate taking iron! I jumped on the monjaro to help my body regulate easier. It made sense when the doctor prescribed it. He also gave me insulin just in case and told me I need to learn to like honey! I swapped my coffee for black teas with a tablespoon of raw, unfiltered local honey. It’s a great way to start my day! It picks up my low glucose and gives me a boost! But now, I’m weak, heat intolerant and I’m in my migraine season so the nausea just sucks. Of course I love that I have lost weight. It sure helps my joints! I did break my ankle and messed up my knee after my right hip replacement. I had surgery on my knee 10/27/25 and ankle repair 11/24/25. That was a lot! Due to my circulation issues from being a type 1 diabetic, the incisions on my ankle were extremely slow to heal. That was a journey! I have been cleared to ride. We lost Lynx 1/26/26. But, I gained a short stack gelding named Gus! Cashman is here too! I rode so much after getting Gus 2/2/26! Cash had surgery on his splint bone spring break! So Gus has gotten so much riding and Cash has been helping. Now my brain is ready to ride. However, the heat is zapping me. I get light headed, faint feeling and I just feel weak. I try to eat. Trust me, I love food. But I am struggling to eat due to my meds.
I’m also on medication for migraines and for my RA,. All of these things were finally addressed this last year. So cheers to weight loss but dang, I need to find something I can eat to hit my caloric goal. I should be eating about 1200 calories a day. I’m hitting maybe 500. This sucks. I noticed that my legs are getting slim. My arms and neck are thin. I have had to buy clothes as most of my clothing falls off or looks like I’m wearing my husbands clothing. It’s actually depressing. I need to find a way to get those calories. I need to cook for my family. But when I cook, I can’t hardly talk myself into eating it. I can’t even decide what to cook. This is a problem!
If you have taken the plunge with medicine like this, what do you eat? I’m living on kind bars 🥺 I guess I can down some protein shakes. To keep giving lessons and ride my horses, I will have to figure this out. The heat intolerance is bad. My goal weight (doctors orders) is 140#. Don’t want to go out to eat. I don’t want to cook. Argh it’s so frustrating! I’m sure we will be tapering down off the medication before the end of this year. I have also noticed my hair is falling out. My skin has gotten thin. It bruises and cuts easily. So if you are on a medication like this, what do you do?
